What a week!

Ok...so I finally got my social security card and have applied to be a sub for now.
I have my final state test coming up weekend after this coming weekend...then it will be a month before I get the results and *fingers crossed* if I pass, I'll be able to get my certificate. THEN...it's time to cap off my resume and start taking them to schools I'd like to teach in! :)

Since I last posted...I've done quite a few things. I went to the IFR Rodeo with Matt...and Sooner National BMX Races at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie...my "nephew" has been racing bikes for like 6 years and this was my first race ever to go watch him. It was an awesome atmosphere - one I had never been in before and definitely am looking forward to more races. That night I went to a sports bar called Halftime and had the BEST fried chicken EVER. I cannot wait to go back.

Serena is soooo close to having baby Gage! :D She's 31 weeks now, but the doctors say she will definitely go in to early labor. I have several options for being there...Cindy may or may not drive down once we know she has gone into labor. If she does, then I will ride with her and we'll stay for a few days and come back. Then I would fly back down there on my own once she and the baby get to go home from the hospital. Now...after her most recent appt., they are more optimistic that she will go further than expected...but still deliver early. If that happens, it will be too late for Cindy to drive down so I may have to miss out on the actual birth but will still fly down for like 6-10 days to help out. Either way... I WILL BE DOWN THERE!!! I'm so nervous and anxious and excited!

I have been keeping up with taking the pictures with my camera but I haven't been quite as good at uploading them so I will try to take time maybe tomorrow or sometime this week to upload my pictures and just update more on what's been goin on lately. Life has definitely been good to me lately and I'm trying to not take it for granted because I hate to be a pessimist...well, maybe more of a realist when I say what goes up must come down...so we will see what the future holds!!

Waiting on my delayed lift-off

Okay....so, it has been 1 month and 1 day since I graduated from college and I still don't have a job. Why?? Well, it's simple and it's very frustrating and it's simply, MY FAULT. One thing...well, 2 things to remember is that I'm a procrastinator and I'm very disorganized. The latter is the more important one to remember right now...

After I got married, I got a new social security card with my new last name....and I lost it. It's in my house somewhere, and I looked for over 2 weeks for the stupid thing and I could not find it. So...I had to get a new one. After waiting for 2 1/2 weeks they sent me back my passport and told me it would still be another 2 weeks because this is one of the busiest times of the year to get a new card...so, here I am, sitting at home...cleaning and watching tv and browsing around on the internet...jobless. I know I am more than qualified to do just about any job I want, but the job that I want to do most and would be most beneficial to me in a couple months would be substitute teaching. However, at the 2 districts I want to substitute teach in, both require a copy of my social security card; not just my number. So until that baby comes, I am stuck here feeling like I am still mooching off my husband and not being productive in any way. What a way to start of 2009...

Puppy Therapy!

Meet Trapper! This is my new puppy that my step mom brought home from Dallas along with a set of twins for her to keep. My aunt and cousin's two dogs had puppies 6 weeks ago...

Trapper, who's original name was Otis, is a ShiChi...his mom is a Shih Tzu and his dad is a teacup Chihuahua. Interesting combo I know...but he is soo cute!

I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself...

Okay...first and foremost, I am a girl. Yea yea yea it's obvious thanks to my name and pictures but I just had to throw that out before I begin with the rest of my blog...

Today I decided to do some shopping...nothing major. I was really on the hunt for some new necklaces because I have a few things I got for Christmas that need something extra to spice it up... instead, I bought a stretch bracelet thing and 2 pairs of earrings...1 pair that I've been looking to buy for a while...just never found the price I liked until today. :)
Right next door to this jewelry store happens to be a Mardel. Mardel is mostly known for their Christian/religious items BUT they also sell education decorations and supplies. **I was in heaven!
Not to jump the gun too much I browsed everything and got ideas for what would be good to use for decorations in my classroom next year and then I had to buy something...I just couldn't resist! So...I bought several packets of stickers and some birthday stuff like stickers, certificates, etc. But today in the mail I FINALLY got what I've been waiting for (besides my new ss card). I ordered from VistaPrint custom sticky notes and regular large note pads that have my name and a cute design...I'll try to take a picture because they are too cute!
To back up a few weeks...at Christmas, my grandma got me a small apple decoration to sit on a shelf or my desk that says: "The best teachers teach from the heart"
I also got probably the most sentimental gift for my class from my mother-in-law. When I married Matt, I married in to a family of teachers. My mother-in-law used to be a teacher and so she gave me a red schoolhouse-shaped sign thing that says Mrs. Harbert's Class --it was hers when she was a teacher! It finally made me realize that I am ready for that step in my life. No more school as a student...but as an educator!
I have less than a month until I take my last test and in March, if I pass, I will be ready to be certified! I cannot wait!
Until then...I'll be stocking up on little things here and there to get ready for my classroom!

Good trips down memory lane

Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to spend time with two friends I do not get to see or talk to very often. A lunch date with one and an evening of Wii and poker with the other, I was happy to know that we could pick up where we left off as if time did not keep us apart from each other. I realized I do hate not seeing or speaking to either one of them very often, but it is good to hear about how their lives are growing and changing and knowing I can still be a part of it. This leads to sharing new stories and reminiscing about old ones, too.

There is so much more I could say about this weekend but
I think I want to be selfish a little while longer and just enjoy it to myself for now....

Matt, me & Natalie playin poker!

Natalie, Brittney & Me...reunited!
**notice Brittney's so short she had to stand on her knees on a stool! lol!
**notice my lovely camo shirt I donned for my hubby...
the kind of sacrifices made in the name of love!

Day 1 of 2009 means day 1 of resolutions....

As New Year's Eve approaches every year, so does that same old question: "What is your New Year's resolution going to be?" I actually have not made a resolution for a few years now because I knew that I would forget and not even stand a chance at keeping them. This year, however, is different. Since my last resolution I have gone through many changes in my life. Most importantly, I married Matt and now most recently, have graduated college. Therefore, I thought it was time to set a realistic goal that can be a fun goal and not so much an obligation. I have decided to keep a journal. This, what you are reading, is going to be my journal. I was never good at keeping a diary type journal...the kind that I would hide from my sister and parents but thanks to technology, journals have moved online due to constant 24/7 access to the internet and social networking. Since 2009 means 'Get a job, Sam' I thought I would chronicle what happens to me this year. Now, to be specific, my keeping a journal does not mean daily posts...sometimes I may write everyday but my goal is to update every 7-10 days minimum. I am excited for what this year will bring and I am excited to finally start my career in teaching. So be on the lookout for some funny happenings. I'm actually looking forward to doing this whole blog thing.

Since there are still approx. 2 hours of Jan 1 left, I hope the other 364 days are great! Happy 2009 to you all!
